Significant rainfall is expected for the Copper River Basin Tuesday evening through Wednesday. 1 to 3 inches of rain is possible across portions of the basin, with the highest amounts likely along the Wrangell and Chugach Mountains, including locations along the Tok Cutoff, Nabesna Road, Edgerton Highway, and McCarthy.

High winds may increase threat for coastal erosion for some in Southwest Alaska Sunday and Monday

* WIND...Northeast winds of 35 to 55 mph with gusts to 80 mph
expected through Thompson Pass and out of northerly gaps and
canyons in Valdez.
A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. People are urged to secure loose objects that could
be blown around or damaged by the wind.

Northeasterly winds are expected to increase beginning Wednesday morning
for the Matanuska Valley. Winds will be gusty and reach peak
speed close to 65 mph Wednesday night. Driving may be difficult,
especially across the usual windy areas such as Moose Flats.

The recent cold snap has caused the Kenai River freeze-up process
to kick into high gear. As ice fills the river, it can build up
and start to restrict the flow in the river channel. This has
caused water levels to rise considerably during the last week near
Soldotna.

Storm total accumulation of around 12 inches is expected, with locally higher amounts on the mountains. An east wind of 10 to 20 mph will develop, blowing the light, dry snow around and reducing visibilities to less than 1/2 mile at times.
