Heavy Rainfall Along the Central Gulf Coast; Thunderstorms from the Plains to the Central Appalachians; Heat Across the East

A system in the Gulf could produce heavy rainfall and flash flooding for portions of the north-central Gulf Coast into Saturday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon into Friday from Central Plains into the mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians. This article is from Jan 2018 and is no longer valid: Strong northerly gap winds are expected to develop across Southcentral Sunday afternoon through Monday. The strongest winds can be expected at Thompson Pass where gusts could reach as high as 70 mph leading to periods of reduced visibility due to blowing and drifting snow as well as wind chills nearing -40 F. Strong winds can also be expected in Valdez and the Matanuska Valley, including Palmer and Wasilla, where gusts up to 60 mph can be expected.
