Back-to-Back Pacific Storms to Impact the West Coast; Heavy Snow in the Central Appalachians

Back-to-back powerful Pacific storm systems to impact the Pacific Northwest and northern California through the end of this week with heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow. A strong, long-duration atmospheric river will accompany the Pacific storms, bringing excessive rainfall and flash flooding to southwest Oregon and northwest California through the week. Read More >

This past rain event made for a few noteworthy tid-bits:

- Daily rainfall record of 0.66" at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (Last daily rainfall record for Anchorage was on May 26 when 0.76" fell)

- Yesterday's 0.66" was the second wettest calendar day (Midnight - Midnight), and the storm total of 0.88" marked the second wettest 24 hour period of the year.

- This event now has us on pace to have an above normal month of precipitation... first one since May, and with more rain to come tonight & tomorrow (not as much as this past event), as well as an active storm track remaining in place over the next 12 days, chances are very good we will end the month with above normal rainfall for the first time since May.

In case you were wondering, September's monthly rainfall record is 7.70" set back in 2015. We are currently at 2.27" for the month. Average is 2.99"
