Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches for the North Carolina Outer Banks; Hot in the Mid-Mississippi Valley

Tropical Storm conditions and coastal flooding are possible in the North Carolina Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday. Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches are in effect. Major Hurricane Erin is expected to bring life threatening surf and rip currents along the East Coast beaches this week. Hot and humid conditions will continue into mid-week, but a slight tick downward in temperatures Thursday will portend a late week cooling trend. We will see isolated to scattered mainly afternoon showers and storms around each day.
Limited diurnal shower and storm chances will be confined to higher elevations of East Tennessee mountains and southwest North Carolina today. Rain chances increase area wide with temperatures trending closer to seasonal norms for the latter half of the week.
