Damaging Wind & Tornadoes in Northwest GA

On Wednesday, May 1, 2002 severe thunderstorms raked portions of Northwest Georgia. Many trees were felled, and a number of buildings damaged as the storms moved from the northwest corner of the state southeast toward Calhoun, in Gordon County. Wind speeds up to 80 to 100 mph were estimated in some locations. A National Weather Service Survey Team visited sites reporting the most significant damage and found evidence of a couple of small tornadoes. Reportedly, there were no injuries or deaths.
