.DISCUSSION...

A Fire Danger Statement is in effect for portions of central and
eastern Georgia this afternoon due to low relative humidities and
dry fuels. Please use extreme caution if burning outdoors.

Dry conditions will persist across the area for one more day
today. Minimum RH values will range from 25-30 percent this
afternoon, with the lowest values to the south and east of I-85.
With ongoing drought conditions and very dry fuels, a Fire Danger
Statement is in effect once again this afternoon and evening
until 8 PM EDT. Winds will be SW throughout the day, increasing
to 5-10 mph in the afternoon with gusts as high as 15-20 mph in
far north Georgia. Transport winds will similarly be SW, between
10-15 mph in north Georgia and 8-12 mph in central Georgia.
Strong diurnal mixing is expected once again, with mixing heights
peaking between 7.5-9 kft in the mid afternoon.

Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms will advance from
northeast to southwest through the forecast area late tonight
into Saturday ahead of a cold front. Rainfall amounts through
Saturday night will range from 0.25" in east-central Georgia to
0.75" near the northern districts. Minimum RH values could drop
to around 35 percent in east-central Georgia on Saturday
afternoon where precipitation will be latest to arrive.
Elsewhere, RH values will range from 45-60 percent. Winds will be
SW at 6-12 mph, with north Georgia shifting to NW behind the
front. The wetter pattern will continue on Sunday into early next
week, with scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and
Monday followed by more widespread chances Monday night into
Tuesday.
