Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon/evening across southwest and central Idaho, and far east Oregon. Some storms may become strong to severe, capable of outflows to 40-60 mph, heavy rain, and small hail. Take shelter when thunder roars.
Hot temperatures are expected on Thursday across the area. High temperatures up to 103 degrees are expected in the Treasure Valley and Upper Weiser River, where a Heat Advisory is in effect. These temperatures will impact anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Precautionary/preparedness actions: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
