Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today.   • Flood Watches and Warnings -Issued only when rivers and streams are observed or forecast above flood stage.
  • River Statements -Issued to describe river conditions during high water events which are not expected to exceed flood stage.
  • Hydrologic Outlook - Issued when there is potential for notable hydrologic events. Most often used to describe the possibility of flooding, with occurrence typically 24 hours or more into the future, but as little as 12 hours in some cases when near-term certainty is low.
