June 2024 was warmer and drier than average for Northern and Central Nevada. However, Ely was the only climate site to see wetter than normal conditions for June, thanks to a thunderstorm event on June 26th 2024 that shattered daily rain records with 1.58” . Elko: June 2024 was warmer than normal, with an average temperature of 68.8 degrees which was 5.6 degrees above normal, making June 2024 the 5th warmest on record. Elko received 0.16” of rain which was below average. The average for rainfall is 0.57”. No snow fell in June for Elko, which is normal. Ely: June 2024 was warmer than normal, with an average temperature of 65.5 degrees which was 4.2 degrees above normal, making June 2024 the 4th warmest on record. Ely received 1.65” of rain, which was above average, making June 2024 the 10th wettest on record. The average for rainfall is 0.56”. No snow fell in June 2024 for Ely, which is normal. Eureka: June 2024 was warmer than normal, with an average temperature of 66.6 degrees which is 4.9 degrees above normal, making June 2024 the 3rd warmest on record. Eureka received 0.60” of rain, which was below average. The average rainfall is 0.63”. Tonopah: June 2024 was warmer than normal, with an average temperature of 73.6 degrees which was 4.5 degrees above normal, making June 2024 the 3rd Warmest on record. Tonopah received 0.14” of rain, which was below average. The average rainfall is 0.23”. Winnemucca: June 2024 was warmer than normal, with an average temperature of 70.9 degrees which was 5.5 degrees above normal, making June 2024 tied for the 2nd warmest on record. Winnemucca received a trace of rain, which was below average, making June 2024 tied for the 6th driest on record. The average for rainfall is 0.50”.
Hot high temperatures prompt Excessive Heat Watches and Warnings for the region through the weekend into the work week. Saturday will have fire potential for eastern Elko County thanks to low relative humidity and gusty winds in the area.
Strong high pressure will build across the Great Basin into this weekend and early next week with increasing chances for highs above 100F. This will also be accompanied by moderate to major HeatRisk.
