Heavy Precipitation in the West; Wintry Mix in the North; Fire Weather in the High Plains

Pacific moisture will continue to bring locally heavy coastal/lower elevation rain and heavy mountain snow to the West Coast and portions of the Intermountain West through Monday. A wintry mix will create hazardous travel across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest into early Monday. 2025 was warmer than normal for northern and central Nevada. However 2025 was a mixed result for rainfall and snowfall, Elko, Ely, Eureka, and Winnemucca saw drier than normal conditions while Tonopah saw wetter than normal conditions. For snowfall, Elko, Ely, and Winnemucca saw a deficit in 2025. The data for the 2025 annual climate is below for select locations as highlighted in the graphic. Elko: 2025 was warmer than normal with an average temperature of 50.7 degrees, which was 2.9 degrees above normal, making 2025 tied for the warmest year on record. Elko received 8.41 inches of precipitation and 15.1 inches snowfall in 2025, which was below average for rainfall and snowfall. The yearly averages for rain and snow are 9.99 inches and 41.2 inches, respectively. Ely: 2025 was warmer than normal with an average temperature of 48.5 degrees which was 2.4 degrees above normal, making 2025 the warmest year on record. Ely received 6.57 inches of precipitation and 20.7 inches of snowfall in 2025, which was below average for rainfall and snowfall. The yearly averages for precipitation and snow are 9.41 inches and 54.1 inches, respectively. Eureka: 2025 was warmer than normal with an average temperature of 48.9 degrees which was 2.6 degrees above normal, making 2025 tied for the 3rd warmest year on record. Eureka received 6.13 inches of precipitation, which was below average, making 2025 the 3rd driest on record. The average yearly precipitation is 9.10 inches. Tonopah: 2025 was warmer than normal with an average temperature of 54.4 degrees which was 1.5 degrees above normal, making 2025 the 5th warmest year on record. Tonopah received 6.08 inches of precipitation, which was above average. The average yearly precipitation is 4.79 inches. Winnemucca: 2025 was warmer than normal with an average temperature of 52.1 degrees which was 1.5 degrees above normal, making 2025 the 3rd warmest year on record. Winnemucca received 6.77 inches of precipitation and 9.6 inches of snowfall in 2025, which was below average for rainfall and snowfall. The yearly averages for precipitation and snow are 8.28 inches and 22.0 inches, respectively.
