Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. A Flood Advisory is in effect until further notice for Lamoille Creek in Elko County. The water level at Lamoille Creek has reached action stage. Action stage is the level at which some type of mitigation is needed in preparation for possible minor flooding. Visitors to Lamoille Canyon and the Powerhouse Picnic Area need to use caution around Lamoille Creek and other creeks in the Ruby Mountains.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for portions of Northern Nevada from 12 PM PDT until 8 PM PDT Saturday evening. Highs will be around 94 to 99 degrees in the valleys with record highs possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
High temperatures throughout Northern and Central Nevada this afternoon will be around fifteen degrees above normal for this time of year. Near record heat is expected in Elko, Ely, and Tonopah this afternoon.

High temperatures throughout Northern Nevada Saturday afternoon will be around fifteen degrees above normal for this time of year. This will result in a moderate risk for heat-related illnesses. Although heat events like this are relatively common and happen many times a year, heat-related impacts are possible for those new to the area if simple precautions are not taken. Plan to take action to reduce time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and remain in air-conditioned buildings. Heat-sensitive groups, such as the elderly, young children, and those with chronic ailments may need assistance to avoid heat-related illnesses. As always, never, ever leave a child or pet in an enclosed automobile.
