Fire Weather Concerns in the Southern Plains and Southeast; Pacific System to Bring Unsettled Weather to the West Coast

Gusty winds and dry conditions will continue to bring elevated to critical fire weather conditions to the southern Plains and Southeast early this week. A Pacific storm system will bring low elevation rain and heavy high elevation mountain snow to northern and central California through early week, expanding into the Pacific Northwest, Great Basin, and southern California on Tuesday. High temperatures throughout Northern and Central Nevada this afternoon will be seven to nine degrees cooler than yesterday afternoon. Maximum temperatures across Northern and Central Nevada Monday afternoon will be around ten degrees below normal for this time of year.
A storm system will impact Northern and Central Nevada today through Monday afternoon, resulting in periods of valley rain and mountain snow. Snow levels will start at around 7,000 feet today, before dropping to about 6,000 feet tonight. The majority of this precipitation will remain over Central Nevada.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected throughout Northern and Central Nevada from 12 PM PDT this afternoon until 8 PM PDT this evening. A few of these thunderstorms could be strong. The primary thunderstorm hazards will be wind gusts near 45 mph and dangerous cloud to ground lightning strikes.
