Heat Persists in the South Central U.S. and Southwest; Heavy rains in the Desert Southwest and Central Plains

Sweltering heat remains across the South-Central Plains, Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley, and the Southwest this week with limited nighttime relief. Thunderstorms will bring heavy rainfall leading to localized flash flooding in portions of the Desert Southwest and central Plains. Significant Tornado Events or Tornado Outbreaks

  • The April 27-28, 1912 Tornado Outbreak - This tornado outbreak produced many strong to violent tornadoes mainly in western and central Oklahoma, but included an F4 tornado which plowed through portions of Hardeman County in western north Texas.
  • The April 10, 1979 Red River Tornado Outbreak . This outbreak included a tornado which devastated parts of Wichita Falls, Texas, and was the most costly tornado until the May 3, 1999 Bridge Creek/Moore/OKC Area tornado.
