The tornado was first reported at 6:00 pm northeast of the town of Dale in Pottawatomie County. It moved northeastward for 40 miles producing damage in the towns of Meeker, Sparks, and Davenport in Lincoln County. The tornado continued northeastward into Creek County, near the town of Depew. A total of 65 people were injured, but fortunately no one was killed. A large bus was carried 300 feet, and overturned on the U.S. Highway 62 just east of Meeker. Property damage was estimated at $820,000. In Lincoln County, 120 buildings were damaged or destroyed.

This tornado was the deadliest and most damaging of the 10 tornadoes that occurred in Oklahoma during the tornado outbreak of April 2-3, 1956. The twister touched down at 9:33 pm CST near Jacktown, OK in Lincoln County and moved north-northeast through Davenport, OK, to west of Stroud, OK, and then into Drumright, OK in Creek County. In Drumright, the tornado killed five people and injured another 98 persons. Four of those killed were from the same family. It destroyed 63 homes and damaged 203 more homes in a 40-block area in Drumright. Twenty-one other buildings were destroyed and 35 were damaged. Numerous farms in the rural areas of Lincoln and Creek Counties were destroyed.

This violent tornado was initially observed as it formed in the North Canadian River bottomlands just south of the city of Shawnee, OK. Several farmsteads and the Resthaven Cemetery were damaged or destroyed 2 miles east of Shawnee. Several more farmsteads were destroyed and general destruction occurred in the Eoontuohka area. At least 14 farmsteads were destroyed between Prague, OK and Paden, OK at 5:27 pm CST. There was extensive destruction in the area.

The tornado was described as a huge, white, barrel-shaped cloud that stayed completely on the ground. Northeast of Prague, a million-dollar refinery received about $750,000 in damage. Several company homes were destroyed. Farmsteads were damaged and destroyed all along the rest of the rest of the long path northeastward.

Two people were killed and eleven injured in the Iron Post area south of Bristow, OK. This tornado caused the most damage as it moved through the west and north portions of Sapulpa, OK at 6:32 pm CST. Three persons were killed and 70 injured, and a total of 1000 people were homeless.

There were about 300 homes destroyed or damaged. Of this total approximately 100 homes were completely destroyed with 100 more receiving heavy damage and another 100 homes incurring partial damage. A school and 2 churches were also destroyed, and trees and utilities were heavily damaged. The storm covered a 12-15 block area in Sapulpa.

The funnel lifted northeast of Sapulpa and was observed aloft over Tulsa, OK at 7:00 pm CST. High winds destroyed a house in Tulsa and other general damage was reported. Large hail fell east and northeast of Shawnee, and some hail was observed near the entire path of the tornado.

Severe thunderstorms moving along an east-southeastward path in central Oklahoma produced tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and rain from southwestern Logan County, through northeastern Oklahoma County, and into southwestern Lincoln County. One of the tornadoes touched down at 3:45 pm CST about 8 miles southeast of Seward, OK and near the intersection of U.S. Interstate Highway I-35 and the Logan/Oklahoma County line.

The tornado strengthened at about 4:05 pm CST and produced a swath of destruction that was 0.25 miles wide. The damage path was well defined by downed and twisted trees, and total destruction occurred to 2 homes, 4 barns, and 9 outbuildings, with lesser damage incurred by 10 homes and 7 buildings.

Four persons were injured when their car was picked up and carried 100 feet off of the U.S. Interstate Highway I-35. A second car in that vicinity was blown off the pavement. An oil derrick and pumping unit were destroyed along with 3 storage tanks, one of which was blown 1.5 miles away from its mountings.

The damage path of the tornado continued to just north of Arcadia, OK in Oklahoma County where 2 homes were heavily damaged. The path continued through open country and crossed the Turner Turnpike (U.S. Interstate Highway I-44) just south of Luther, OK. The tornado next leveled buildings on 2 farmsteads 7 miles southeast where a woman was fatally injured when it destroyed her mobile home.

Heavy damage was produced along the path for the next few miles until the tornado lifted 3 miles north of Luther. Hailstones of 1 to 2 inches were reported along the path of the storm.

The only violent tornado to occur in October in Oklahoma since records began in 1950, did immense damage to the towns of Shawnee, OK and Prague, OK.  It formed over Shawnee in Pottawatomie County, and traveled through the center of the town before moving northeast and crossing U.S. Interstate Highway I-40 about 6.5 miles northeast of Shawnee.  The tornado cut an intermittent path to the northeast and then hit the town of Prague in Lincoln County. The tornado sliced through the southwestern portion of Prague before it dissipated 2 miles north of Paden, OK, in Okfuskee County. 

Four persons were killed and another 80 injured in Shawnee. At Prague, four people were injured.  In Shawnee, the storm damaged 157 businesses, 564 residential homes, 12 public buildings, 10 churches, and 5 schools.  In Prague, 14 homes and 1 business establishment were damaged.

A funnel cloud was observed 3 miles southwest of Minco in Grady County at about 3:00 pm CST. The funnel touched down about 2 miles southwest of Mustang at 3:28 pm CST and periodically lifted and touched the ground again at it moved to the east-northeast at 30 mph. This tornado dissipated in Lincoln County at 5:30 pm CST.

The tornado passed about a mile south of the NWS forecast office located near the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. Wind gusts of 66 mph along with 2-inch diameter hail were observed at the forecast office.

A major portion of the reported damage occurred as the storm moved through the southern Oklahoma City and Del City areas. There was extensive damage to homes in that area as several houses were unroofed. A total of 3 injuries were reported in the great Oklahoma City area. Fortunately, none of the injuries were serious.

As the continued moving to the east-northeast through eastern Oklahoma County, the next report of damage was 3 miles northwest of Harrah where several farm buildings were destroyed. Several more farm buildings were destroyed in the Midlothian area.

If more data had been available at the time, it is possible that 2-3 tornadoes may have occurred with one tornado dissipating and another tornado forming near the end point of the previous tornado. However, with the data that was available at the time, it appeared that one long-track tornado occurred.

A tornado moving northeastward first struck Davenport and continued on to Stroud to produce damage there. Heavy damage was reported along the tornado's track. In Davenport, 3 homes were destroyed, 24 received major damage, and 233 had minor damage. About 100 homes and a few businesses were damaged in Stroud. There were 3 people injured in Davenport and 5 more people were injured in Stroud. Four of the people injured in Stroud received cuts from flying glass.

A tornado touched down about 3.5 miles north-northwest of Kendrick and moved to the southeast for about 1.5 miles. The tornado carried a hay bailer about 0.25 miles and destroyed a concrete block garage. Three people were injured.

The Davenport Civil Defense survey a tornado track from the Deep Fork bridge 2 miles north of Sparks to near Davenport. The tornado uprooted trees at a home 5 miles southwest of Davenport. A pickup truck was moved about 50 feet to the southwest at a farm southwest of Davenport and other cars were damaged. A home was heavily damaged 1 mile west of Davenport and a small child was injured.

Six utility poles were blown over from the north and 90 mph winds were reported in Davenport between 7:40 and 8:00 pm CST. A lumber yard was damaged at Davenport. A new home, 3 miles to the northeast of Davenport, lost its roof. At 7:52 pm CST, a funnel was reported approaching Stroud, and another funnel was sighted 1 mile east of Davenport at 7:42 pm CST. Wind damage also occurred at Stroud.

A tornado touch down briefly 0.5 miles west of the town of Midway, destroying 3 mobile homes and damaging 3 others. Three people were injured inside the mobile homes. The damage amount was estimated at $150,000.

This tornado initiated 1 mile southwest of Stella and moved northeast through Stella before dissipating 4 miles west of Meeker. A mobile home was destroyed in Stella, resulting in one serious injury. In Pottawatomie County, damage to the Shawnee Lakes area a roof ripped off a home, several homes with minor structural damage, 3 mobile homes damaged, and a barn destroyed. In Lincoln County, a camper was rolled over onto a shed west of Meeker, and a mobile home was destroyed 4.25 miles west of Meeker.

A major severe weather outbreak occurred across western and central Oklahoma from the afternoon of October 4th through the early morning of October 5th, resulting in 19 tornadoes, straight-line wind damage, hail as large as baseballs, and significant flooding across portions of Lincoln and Noble Counties, where numerous costly bridges were destroyed.

This tornado developed about 7 miles west of Prague. This tornado touched down near NS 348 Road about 0.5 miles north of EW 106 Road where a mobile home received light damage. The tornado moved northeast crossing near the intersection of EW 105 Road and NS 349 Road, then grew in size and intensity before crossing U.S. Highway 62. A mobile home along U.S. Highway 62 just west of NS 350 Road was destroyed. The metal frame that supported the home and most of the contents was deposited northwest of the original location up to 150 yards. Other debris was thrown north-northeast across U.S. Highway 62.

The tornado then continued northeast and damage was noted for 0.75 miles along NS 350 Road centered on U.S. Highway 62. Slight damage to trees and outbuildings was observed along NS 352 Road approximately 2 miles north of U.S. Highway 62. The tornado probably dissipated northeast of this point, although roads became inaccessible due to flooding and made it difficult to determine the exact location. In addition, a 6-mile-long swath of damaging straight-line winds accompanied this tornado from 6 miles west of Prague to 3 miles northwest of Prague, resulting in massive tree damage.

A record outbreak of tornadoes struck Oklahoma from late afternoon of May 3, 1999, through early morning of May 4, 1999. A total of 58 tornadoes were recorded across portions of western and central Oklahoma of the NWS Norman, Oklahoma County Warning Area (CWA). An additional 5 tornadoes were reported across eastern Oklahoma from late evening of May 3rd through the early morning of May 4th, and are listed under the eastern Oklahoma portion of Storm Data, provided by the National Weather Service Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

All direct fatalities (40) and all direct injuries (675) occurred in the Norman National Weather Service warning area. The most notable tornado was rated F5 and formed over Grady County near Amber and tracked northeast for 37 miles eventually into the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Bridge Creek, Oklahoma City, Moore, Del City, and Midwest City suffered tremendous damage. Thirty-six direct fatalities and 583 direct injuries were recorded. There were many other significant tornadoes as well, including F4 tornadoes in Kingfisher and Logan Counties, and F3 tornadoes in Caddo, Grady, Kingfisher, Logan, and Lincoln Counties. There were 8 tornadic producing thunderstorms, called supercells, and most of them spawned numerous tornadoes, one after another. Occasionally, these thunderstorms spawned tornadoes at the same time.

This tornado formed 3 miles north-northeast of Sparks in Lincoln County. From this point extending north-northeast toward Davenport, only sporadic tree damage was observed. The tornado then inflicted scattered and mostly minor damage to houses and businesses in southeast portions of Davenport consistent with a high F0/low F1 rating, however a house just south of Davenport did lose more than half its roof.

The tornado then continued northeastward toward Stroud remaining nearly parallel with U.S. Interstate Highway I-44 and OK State Route 66. In Stroud, the three largest employers of Stroud were heavily damaged. On the west side of Stroud along OK State Highway 66, the tornado hit the Sygma food distribution warehouse. The southeast section of the warehouse, a large free-span structure, suffered significant damage. Three semi-trucks at the warehouse were overturned. Some of the girders and siding from the warehouse were thrown to the northwest across OK State Highway 66.

Farther east along OK State Highway 66 the Stroud Municipal Hospital suffered significant roof damage, which then caused significant water damage within the hospital. The pattern of the trees that were felled adjacent to the hospital suggested a multiple-vortex structure to the tornado at this point. Damage was estimated to be F2 along OK State Highway 66.

As the tornado continued to move northeast along the I-44 turnpike, a McDonald's received minor damage, while an adjacent gas station had all its windows blown out. Semi-trucks parked in the gas station parking lot were also destroyed. On the north side of the turnpike on Old Stroud Road, a group of seven mobile homes was completely destroyed, three of which were occupied. However, none were occupied when the tornado struck. The degree of destruction of these mobile homes indicated an F2 rating in this area.

To the north, a large house being built (although most of the exterior of the house was completed) suffered roof and siding damage, especially on the east side. Much of the newly-laid interior wood flooring was destroyed by water. A number of homes in a neighborhood on the south side of the turnpike were damaged. At least two houses lost roofs with more minor roof and siding damage to others.

Some of the worst damage, rated F3, occurred near the Tanger Outlet Mall, which was hit next by the tornado. Almost all of the stores suffered at least roof damage, however a section of 7 store fronts was destroyed. This section included four stores: Dress Barn, Corning, Mikasa, and a housewares store. At the eastern most section of the building, the exterior walls of the Levi's store collapsed inward. This store was a couple of hundred yards away from the other destroyed section. Local officials from Stroud had evacuated the mall before the tornado struck (approximately 2139 CST), and thus there were no fatalities or injuries in this area.

Just south of the outlet mall, a Best Western motel lost part of its roof, and a Wendy's restaurant suffered a partially collapsed roof and broken windows. North of the outlet mall, a number of homes were damaged or destroyed in the Midway mobile home park. As the tornado moved northeast out of Stroud, a number of high-tension electrical towers were downed, and a few trees were downed before the tornado moved into Creek County about one mile north of the turnpike, dissipating south of Stroud Lake.

This tornado continued on into Creek County, travelling on the ground for two miles before lifting just northwest of Milfay. Fortunately, in Creek County, the tornado travelled through an unpopulated rural area and was only responsible for tree damage.

A moist and very unstable airmass was in place over the eastern two thirds of Oklahoma, to the east of a dryline. Additionally, strong wind shear was present as a mid-level jet streak carved into the southern Plains. Several supercells developed along the dryline during the mid and late afternoon hours, producing large hail. Two supercells in central Oklahoma also produced tornadoes, including a few significant, damaging tornadoes.

This tornado touched down just south of Triple XXX Road and Coffee Creek Road to the northwest of Luther and began to move east-northeast. The tornado began producing EF2 damage soon after crossing Luther Road where an outbuilding was destroyed. At least two mobile homes were destroyed as the tornado continued to the east-northeast. The tornado crossed Waterloo Road and moved into Logan County.

Tornado continued tracking northeast, producing tree damage as it clipped the extreme southeastern corner of Logan County before moving into Lincoln County. The large tornado continued to move northeast from Logan County into Lincoln County. The tornado passed just southeast of Fallis and then clipped the southeastern portion of Carney. It produced EF3 damage to a number of homes from just south of Carney into the southeast portion of the town. The tornado finally dissipated about 3 miles southeast of Tryon. Motions observed visually in this tornado suggest that the tornado was likely stronger than EF3 in western Lincoln County, but no damage indicators were available that would have supplied a rating higher than EF3 in this area.
