Hurricane Milton is strengthening in the southwest Gulf of Mexico. Milton is expected to become a major hurricane and bring significant impacts to Florida this upcoming week, including heavy rain and flooding, life-threatening storm surge, and damaging winds. Meanwhile, a late season heat wave will continue across portions of California into the Desert Southwest through Monday. Read More >
A series of severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes in central and southern Oklahoma during the afternoon and evening hours of March 25th and early morning hours of March 26th. One supercell thunderstorm tracked through parts of Canadian, Oklahoma, and Cleveland counties, producing a small, weak anticyclonic tornado near Yukon, OK. The storm later produced an embedded, intermittent, small EF2 tornado within a larger area of damaging winds that affected parts southwest Oklahoma City and Moore. Some of hail reported during this severe weather event reached 2.75" in diameter, and wind gusts from some storm peaked as high as 73 mph at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.
An area of damaging thunderstorm winds and an embedded, intermittent small tornado occurred Wednesday evening, March 25th and affected areas in southwest Oklahoma City and Moore. The path of wind damage varied from 0.1 miles to 0.6 miles in width with evidence of a narrow tornado observed occasionally within this area of damage. The damage began near Southwest 119th Street and May Avenue in southwest Oklahoma City, moved through Moore, and ended about 1/2 mile south-southeast of Northeast 36th Avenue and Indian Hills Road in extreme northern Norman. The most consistent evidence of a tornado was observed from southwest of Northwest 12th Street and Santa Fe Avenue to near Southwest 7th Street and Broadway Avenue in Moore. Low-end EF2 damage was observed in a small area of Moore from near Northwest 2nd Street and Arnold Street to near Main Street and Janeway Avenue.
The following photo series was taken by Angie Herje in the northern part of Norman from 6:41 to 6:46 pm CDT on March 25th, and shows the tornado as it passed through parts of Moore.

The following photo is looking due west at an approaching supercell thunderstorm near the intersection of SW 119th and I-44 in Oklahoma City, and was taken by Justin Andrews on March 25th. This storm had already produced a small anticyclonic tornado near Yukon, and would go on to produce the EF2 tornado that affected parts of SW OKC and Moore.
The following photo series was taken by Angie Herje in the northern part of Norman from 6:41 to 6:46 pm CDT on March 25th, and shows the tornado as it passed through parts of Moore.
NWS personnel conducted a survey of the tornado and wind damage in parts of Moore and southwestern Oklahoma City on March 26, 2015. The following photos show some of the tornado/wind damage that was observed by NWS teams during their surveys of the affected areas.
