Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. ...PRELIMINARY REPORT FOR MARCH 7TH DOUGLAS COUNTY TORNADO...

A DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST
OFFICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS CONFIRMED THAT AN EF1 TORNADO TRACKED
ACROSS A PORTION OF DOUGLAS COUNTY BETWEEN 725 AND 740 PM EST.

THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ALONG THE 4300 BLOCK OF HAMPTON MILL
DRIVE...WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF
DOUGLASVILLE. THE TORNADO TRACKED NORTHEAST WITH A PATH LENGTH OF
7 MILES AND A MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH OF 100 YARDS. MAXIMUM WIND SPEEDS
ARE ESTIMATED NEAR 110 MPH...WHICH IS A HIGH END EF1 ON THE
ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE. THE TORNADO DISSIPATED ALONG VULCAN DRIVE
AT BEAVER RUN CREEK...OR APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF
DOUGLASVILLE.

AT LEAST 50 HOMES WERE DAMAGED BY THE TORNADO. DAMAGES RANGED FROM
DISPLACED SHINGLES AND ROOF DAMAGE...TO BROKEN WINDOWS AND DOWNED
CHIMNEYS...TO A BUCKLED GARAGE DOOR AND A PARTIAL EXTERIOR WALL
FAILURE OF A PERMANENT RESIDENCE. A MOBILE HOME WAS COMPLETELY
DESTROYED WHEN SEVERAL LARGE PINE TREES FELL ON THE STRUCTURE. IN
ADDITION...THE ROOF OF A SUPERMARKET WAS PARTIALLY DAMAGED...AND
AN AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WAS BLOWN INTO THE PARKING LOT.
