Snowfall in Georgia - February 25 - 26, 2004

A vigorous storm system tracked along the Gulf Coast... crossing into the Atlantic Ocean on February 26. Moisture was thrown northward into cold air over northern Georgia. Precipitation began as rain during the day on the 25th, but quickly changed to sleet and snow in the early morning hours of the 26th. As seen in this map snowfall amounts were generally in the 1 to 3 inch range. Some places got more. Many locations on the southern edge of the area that saw wintry precipitation saw less than an inch. The ground was relatively warm as the event unfolded, so roads were generally slushy.
