Coldest Air of the Season on the Way

Some of the cold air that kept Alaska in the deep freeze in recent weeks is pushing into Georgia. This will cause temperatures to fall lower than at any time so far this winter season. Temperatures will be falling well below freezing Thursday night (teens and 20s anticipated across north and central Georgia), and will probably fail to climb above 32 degrees during the day Friday in areas located north of a Carrollton to Atlanta to Athens line. Friday night will be even colder with the mercury dipping into the teens or lower over most of north and central Georgia. Single digits are possible in the normally colder areas.

Wind will make it feel even colder. Wind chill values will be within a few degrees of zero Thursday night and Friday in north Georgia. Want to calculate your wind chill?

Pet owners, and property owners with exposed water pipes should take precautions. Dress warmly in layers when outdoors.

Although temperatures will be below normal, the air does not look cold enough to break records.
