A cold front moved through Georgia on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 bringing thunderstorms to north and central Georgia. Numerous reports of downed trees were reported across the area as well as one report of nickel sized hail in Fannin County. Significant damage with this storm system was reported in Glascock County and a National Weather Service damage assessment team determined that an EF-1 tornado moved through the County.

Numerous hardwood and pine trees were either snapped or uprooted. As the tornado crossed GA State Highway 171, it ripped off 20 percent of the metal roof from a residential home built in the late 1800's. Also, a camper trailer in the front yard was thrown 50 feet. Across the highway, two manufactured homes were knocked off their foundations. One of them had two fallen trees on it. The worst of the damage occurred at the Magnolia Baptist Church near the intersection of GA Highway 171 and Magnolia Church Road. Up to 60 percent of the roof was ripped off the main brick sanctuary. The roof was completely torn off the fellowship hall on the west side of the church and most of the four brick walls were collapsed. Numerous tombstones and other structures at the cemetery near the church were also damaged.
