An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect area-wide through 9 AM Tuesday. Wind chills will be as cold as -10 degrees at times, with forecast low temperatures ranging from 0 to 14 degrees both this morning and Tuesday morning.
Temperatures will remain below freezing today with wind chills in the teens and lower 20s. Continue to protect yourself and your home from extremely cold temperatures and wind chills. Temperatures will finally climb above freezing on Tuesday afternoon, leading to quick improvement of lingering impacted roads.
Although wintry weather has ended, travel impacts continue to begin the workweek with most roads covered by snow, sleet, and ice. Stay home and avoid travelling if at all possible. Check on the elderly, and make sure pets have a warm place to stay.
Partially melted snow, sleet, and ice will refreeze tonight into Tuesday morning resulting in hazardous travel conditions. Expect black ice on uncleared and untreated roads and sidewalks.
As bitterly cold temperatures arrive this weekend, small bodies of water may freeze over. Frozen bodies of water such as ponds, pools, & hot tubs may look solid, but the ice is weak and unstable. Stay off the ice! If you fall into freezing cold water, hypothermia can ensue rapidly. Also, use extra caution when walking on slippery roads and sidewalks, and wear footwear with proper traction.
Cold mornings will stick around through this upcoming week, though afternoon highs will reach mainly into the 30s and 40s. Another cold front near the end of this week will bring colder temperatures and a low chance for rain in Central Texas on Friday.
