Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. Scattered showers and storms will continue today and tomorrow, with the greatest rain chances across western Central Texas. Most storms will occur during the daytime, with coverage diminishing in the evening and overnight hours. Heavy rain and flooding will be the primary concern, and severe thunderstorms are not expected.
Rain chances will gradually taper off late in the workweek, while temperatures climb back to near or above normal heading into the weekend. Highs in the upper 90s with heat index values up to 105 will resume by Sunday.
