Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop Friday afternoon through late Friday night as our next cold front approaches the region. There is currently a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) for severe storms across much of west-central Alabama. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) risk extends east towards the AL/GA state line. The environment will be supportive of damaging winds, a few tornadoes, and large hail. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings tomorrow! Continue to check back for future updates!
In addition to the severe threat, a slow moving boundary will promote periods of heavy rainfall at times. Rainfall amounts from 2-4" are likely. There is a low chance for amounts over 5" across our northwestern areas.
Rain chances increase overnight with the greatest chances coming across our northwestern areas. We will be a bit warmer tonight with lows from the mid 50s to low 60s.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms ramp up Friday afternoon into the evening hours. A few of these storms will be strong to severe at times. High temps warm into the upper 60s to upper 70s.
There is a Marginal risk (Level 1 out of 5) on Saturday as convection continues along a slow moving boundary. Storms will begin to move east of the area during the afternoon hours.
