An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for all of Central Alabama through 9 PM today, as dangerous heat indices ranging between 105 and 113° are forecast. Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the heat of the day. Wear light-weight, light colored clothing. For people without effective cooling, this level of heat can be deadly.
Heat indices will remain above 105 degrees at times through the end of the week. The most persistent heat will be in western and southern portions of Central Alabama. Moderate to locally extreme heat risk will continue. Stay hydrated and practice heat safety. Heat stress builds up over time!
There is a level 1 (out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms with isolated damaging winds between 2 PM and 10 PM today across far northeastern counties. Remember to have multiple ways to get alerts, have access to a sturdy shelter, and check back for updates.
Today will be mostly sunny with scattered afternoon showers and storms. Daytime high temperatures will be very hot, in the middle 90s to the lower 100s with heat indices up to 113. Winds will be out of the west at 5 to 8 mph.
Showers and storms will linger into the evening tonight. Lows will be in the middle to upper 70s. Winds will be light.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny with isolated showers and storms south. Highs will be in the 90s to around 100. Winds will be out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph.
