Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings for the North Carolina Outer Banks; Heat Building in the West

Storm surge flooding and tropical storm conditions are expected in the Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday. Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings are in effect. Tropical storm conditions are possible along the eastern shore of Virginia Thursday. Thunderstorms remain in the forecast through the end of this week. Scattered thunderstorms are expected across much of the region during the afternoon and evening today and Thursday with drier weather returning by Friday. Areas that receive rain can expect rainfall amounts of a few tenths of an inch. An inch or more of rainfall is possible with stronger thunderstorms. Stronger thunderstorms can produce gusty winds and localized flash flooding.
