Union/Morehouse Parish, Louisiana and Ashley County, Arkansas F3 Tornado

F3 Tornado

Event Summary

The Vicksburg tornado was not the only one to occur in our area on December 5, 1953. A storm that tracked from northeastern Louisiana into southeastern Arkansas left a trail of damage. There is some uncertainty as to whether this damage was the result of a single long-track tornado or a family of tornadoes. This storm moved northeast from the eastern part of Spencer in Union Parish, across the edge of Beekman in Morehouse Parish, and eventually passing 2 miles northwest of Montrose in Ashley County. At least 14 people were injured in Spencer, as over a dozen homes were destroyed. At least 21 homes were destroyed in Louisiana. Nine homes were destroyed west and northwest of Montrose, causing 11 injuries.
