Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Another period of high fire danger due to critical fire weather conditions is expected today through Friday. Strong southwest winds and low humidity values will be common each day. Winds will be strongest this afternooon with gusts between 50 and 65 mph.

Strong winds are expected today with potential for damaging wind gusts across portions of central and eastern NM along with areas of blowing dust. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect.

Strong winds will redevelop Friday, but generally be 10-15 mph less than Thursday's. The strongest winds will be across south central and southeast areas where a Wind Advisory may be required.

Rain and mountain snow is increasingly likely to return to New Mexico Friday through Saturday as a system moves across the state. Wetting rainfall greater than 0.10 inches and accumulating mountain snow of 4 to 10" look to favor western and northern NM. Moderate confidence in exact precipitation and snowfall amounts due to some uncertainty in the track of the system, so stay tuned to the forecast for changes!
