A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across the region. The well advertised winter storm is still forecast to move through the region today. The greatest impacts are to occur by mid to late this afternoon into early Wednesday morning as a snow, a mix of winter precipitation, and freezing rain occur. Even after the precipitation ends tonight, temperatures below freezing will still create very hazardous conditions on area roadways. Travel is NOT recommended.
These are the latest Tuesday morning updates to the forecast snow/sleet accumulations and freezing rain accumulations. While freezing rain accumulations have remained nearly steady, forecast snowfall amounts of increased significantly across much of the area, especially across southeast Alabama and southwestern Georgia. Depending on the evolution of the warm air aloft, and cold temperatures at the surface, snow amounts could verify higher, or lower, across the yellow shaded region.
Here are the latest forecast times for when winter precipitation could arrive to the forecast area late today into tonight. It's worth noting that these times have been sped up by about 2 hours across the board based on latest radar and model trends. We'll continue to keep an eye on how things evolve throughout the day, but expect worsening conditions as the afternoon wears on across the area.
