A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. A potent early April storm slammed the area with widespread wind damage and at least 5 tornadoes. Several extensive swaths of significant wind damage occurred, where winds were estimated at 80 mph or greater. The main axis of severe weather and damage occurred within the I-20 corridor from northeast Louisiana to the Jackson Metro to east-central Mississippi around Meridian. Overall, several thousand trees were snapped and uprooted with several dozen homes damaged by downed trees. The focus of the significant wind damage is across Vicksburg, Bolton, Jackson, the Reservoir area of Rankin County, the Hillsboro area in Scott County, northern Newton County and the northern half of Lauderdale County.
Some damage surveys have already occurred across Warren, Hinds and Rankin Counties. Additional surveys will take place over the next several days and this page will be updated as new information arrives. Damage Reports |
