Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. West to northwest winds become strong and blustery for the afternoon and early evening with gusts from 40 to 50 mph expected.  The winds will gradually decrease this evening. Be ready for impacts to travel, especially high profile vehicles along north-south corridors.

This Afternoon and Early Evening: Strong, Gusty Winds

  • What: west to northwest winds 20 to 30 mph, gusting from 40 to 50
  • Where: entire area
  • Timing: Peak gusts 1 pm to 6 pm
  • Impacts: high profile vehicles may encounter difficult travel (especially along north-south running roads). Outdoor furniture, loose objects likely to get blown around
  • ACTION: secure lightweight, outdoor objects (such as garbage cans). Be prepared for difficult driving conditions, especially open areas
