Lingering Winter Weather in Interior New England; Snow Squalls Developing Downwind of the Lower Great Lakes

A wintry mix will continue in interior New England through tonight as a coastal storm quickly passes to the east. Heavy snow is expected in northern Maine, with a coating of ice expected for much of interior New England. Through 600 AM, a snow band will move east across parts of northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and western Wisconsin. Snow totals will be generally light ranging from a trace to a inch, locally higher amounts in portions of western Wisconsin. Some roads may become slippery.
Light band of snow moves through the area this afternoon, mainly east of the Mississippi River, with minimal accumulations (<0.5") expected. Second round of snow moves in overnight bringing 1 to 3" along and north of I-90. This snow could impact the Friday morning commute. Snow showers combined with gusty northwest winds on Friday may result in localized visibility reductions. If you are travelling over the next couple of days, be sure to keep an eye on the forecast!
Periods of light snow will move through the region this afternoon through Saturday bringing accumulations across much of the area. A cold front will move through the area on Friday ushering in colder air for the weekend with highs falling into the teens and single digits. Morning wind chills this weekend and into early next week will be in the negative teens and 20s.
