Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Similar weather expected today as yesterday with daytime highs a few degrees above and below 80 and scattered showers with isolated storms primarily affecting areas east of the Mississippi River Valley. More widespread storms are expected for Thursday. Initial storm threat lifts northeast through Minnesota Thursday morning with a subsequent line of storms progressing quickly, near 40+ mph, through the area into the afternoon. These storms are expected to strengthen along and east of the Mississippi River Valley resulting in a potential for strong to severe storms primarily in Wisconsin. While main concerns will be damaging winds and large hail, tornadoes cannot be ruled out at this time. Cooler temperatures expected for Friday and through the weekend with daytime highs in the 70s and 60s, respectively.
