An area of low pressure developed over Oklahoma during the night of the 14th. The low then tracked across Missouri and Illinois during the day of the 15th and then turned north and went over Lake Michigan during the night of the 15th. A trough of low pressure extended north from the low and moved across Minnesota and Iowa and into western Wisconsin during the day of the 15th and then across the remainder of Wisconsin during the night. Warm and moist air was brought north into the region ahead of the low and the precipitation initially fell as all rain. Once the trough of the low pressure moved into the area, temperatures starting cooling and this allowed the rain to quickly change over to snow. Quite typical of early season snow storms, snow totals exhibited a wide range with some locations receiving only a trace, while amounts of 6 to 7 inches were reported across Vernon and Grant counties in western Wisconsin. The snow tapered off to flurries during the morning of the 16th as the area of low pressure lifted north across the upper peninsula of Michigan into southern Canada.
Around the local area, the heavy snow was rather localized from parts of western Wisconsin northeast into the central part of the state. The highest snowfall totals reported were 6.9 inches at Lancaster, Wisconsin and 6.5 inches at Viroqua, Wisconsin.
Snow totals for November 15-16.
