An area of low pressure moved out of South Dakota early in the morning of the 16th and across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa before sunrise. After daybreak, the low moved across northern Missouri into central Illinois. Some light snow developed north of the low and moved into Southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa and western Wisconsin just before daybreak. As the low progressed across Missouri, the snow increased in coverage and intensity and persisted into the early to mid afternoon hours. A band of locally heavy snow fell from Wabasha county in Minnesota east across the Wisconsin counties of Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, Monroe and Juneau. These areas generally saw 5 to 8 inches of snow. The rest of southeast Minnesota saw accumulations range from 2 to 5 inches, with 1 to 4 inches across northeast Iowa. The remainder of southwest Wisconsin saw anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow. The highest totals reported were 8.1 at Theilman, Minnesota and 8 inches 1 mile west of Reads Landing, Minnesota and 6 miles south of Mondovi, Wisconsin.
The following Public Information Statement provides a summary of the snow totals across southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa and western Wisconsin:
