March 4, 2003 Snow Totals
A cold front moved across the upper Midwest during the early morning hours of the 4th before becoming nearly stationary across central Illinois and Missouri. An upper level disturbance moved across the area during the morning hours bringing the first round of snow to the area. Accumulations with the round of snow were mainly in the 1 to 2 inch range. During the afternoon and evening, low pressure moved out of Oklahoma into Illinois. As the low moved northeast along the cold front, another round of snow developed and spread across the area. As yet another upper level disturbance passed across the area, a band of heavy snow developed across northeast Iowa into southwest Wisconsin. Snowfall totals exceeding 6 inches extended from north of Waterloo, Iowa, through the Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin area to around Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Within this band of heavy snow, 12 to 14 inches fell across northeast Fayette county and northwest Clayton county in northeast Iowa. Clermont, Iowa reported the highest snowfall total with 14 inches.
