A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible through early Wednesday morning across parts of northeast Texas into western Tennessee. Read More >
An area of low pressure developed over eastern Colorado and western Kansas during the afternoon and evening of the 19th. The low then tracked across Kansas and northern Missouri during the night and into central Illinois by the early afternoon of the 20th. A trough of low pressure extended north from the low and swept across Iowa along with southern Minnesota and Wisconsin. As the trough of low pressure advanced slowly toward the area, light snow developed across southern Minnesota late in the afternoon of the 19th and moved into western and central Wisconsin. An east-west band of heavy snow developed late in the evening of the 19th and continued through the overnight hours across southeast Minnesota into central Wisconsin, with totals of 7 to 9 inches reported in this band. All of the snow moved east of the region during the afternoon of the 20th as the trough of low pressure finally moved across the region.
Around the local area, the band of the heaviest snow extended from Dodge county in Minnesota, through the northern sections of Rochester into northern Adams and Juneau counties of central Wisconsin. The highest snowfall totals reported were 9.5 inches at Taylor, Wisconsin and 10 miles northeast of Friendship, Wisconsin and 9 inches at Byron, Minnesota.
