Extreme Fire Weather Concerns; Severe Thunderstorms from the Plains to Mississippi Valley

Extremely critical fire weather concerns for portions of the southern High Plans as strong wind and very dry conditions could result in rapid spread of any fires. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are expected once again across areas of the Central and Southern Plains, then spreading in the Mississippi Valley regions on Monday. It was a very warm 2024 for La Crosse and Rochester with both locations recording a top 3 record for yearly temperature. Interestingly, the warmth had little to do with any summer hot periods, rather it was very mild winter and fall conditions. Precipitation was a bit over 2" above normal at La Crosse and Rochester in 2024. Despite this, of more note was an over 30 day stretch of dry conditions that occurred in late September through mid October. For more details:
