Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Concerns in California; Heavy Snow in the Sierra

An atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to lower elevations of California this week, and heavy snow to the Sierra Nevada mountains. Flash flooding, some of which may be locally considerable, will be a concern on the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains through Tuesday. It was a very warm 2024 for La Crosse and Rochester with both locations recording a top 3 record for yearly temperature. Interestingly, the warmth had little to do with any summer hot periods, rather it was very mild winter and fall conditions. Precipitation was a bit over 2" above normal at La Crosse and Rochester in 2024. Despite this, of more note was an over 30 day stretch of dry conditions that occurred in late September through mid October. For more details:
