The National Weather Service is Replacing our River Observation and Forecast Website!

For more than two decades, the National Weather Service (NWS) has delivered river observations and forecast products and services via the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS). This legacy system needed to be modernized to support newer innovation with technology supported by scalable infrastructure that uses services-driven architecture. Currently scheduled for March 27th, 2024, the NWS will replace AHPS with a new website, the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS). Existing AHPS content and features will be preserved and expanded within NWPS.

In order to ensure NWPS delivered capabilities that met customer and public needs, the NWS hosted a public testing period from November 15th, 2023 to December 15th, 2023. The goal of this testing phase was to collect feedback from you so that the feedback could be used to ensure NWPS delivered capabilities that met your needs. You can continue to provide feedback via this link here

After December 15th, the preview NWPS website will remain active until it officially replaces AHPS and becomes the official River and Observation Website for the National Weather Service. During this time (from December 15th through the Spring of 2024), NWPS will be undergoing code and feature improvements based on the feedback provided during the testing period. We encourage you to continue submitting feedback after the testing period so we can continue improving NWPS.
