Thunderstorms are expected to develop along a cold front across eastern Oklahoma and march quickly into western Arkansas by mid afternoon Sunday. Storms are likely to become strong to severe, with damaging winds and large hail the main threats.
Gusty northwesterly winds will develop behind a cold front Sunday. Widespread gusts of 40 to 60 mph are likely across the area which will blow around loose objects and make travel difficult on east-west roadways.
Widespread cold temperatures will spread in behind a cold front Sunday night into early next week. Low temperatures in the low to mid 20s will be common by Monday morning with wind chill values in the single digits for some locations. Widespread freezing temps will continue into Tuesday morning as well. If you have begun planting sensitive vegetation, make plans to protect those plants early next week.
Temperatures will warm through the rest of the week before a strong cold front brings a chance of storms on Sunday afternoon for some with elevated fire weather concerns behind the front thanks to strong northerly winds. Many locations will see freezing temperatures Monday and Tuesday morning.
