Thunderstorm chances develop late this afternoon, and increase this evening into Friday morning across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. A slight to locally enhanced severe risk exists northwest of Interstate 44, while a marginal severe weather risk is outlooked for much of the rest of eastern Oklahoma as well as parts of northwest Arkansas. Large hail and damaging winds are the main severe threats, though a limited tornado threat does exist.
Severe storm probabilities increase with storms forecast to move into northeast Oklahoma mid to late evening Thursday and spread east and southeast into Friday morning.
Thunderstorms may be ongoing early Friday morning and expand in coverage and intensity through the day. A slight risk of severe weather is outlooked Friday for much of east central and southeast Oklahoma as well as much of western Arkansas while a frontal boundary sets up over the region. Locally heavy rainfall and flooding potential may also develop.
A frontal boundary is forecast to lift back northward Saturday afternoon and night, which will aid in increasing thunderstorm chances for eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. A slight to enhanced severe weather risk is outlooked for eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas Saturday. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary severe threats.
15 to 30 percent severe storm chances continue across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas Sunday, then shift eastward Monday as a cold front moves through the region. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the main hazards each day. Storms should exit by Monday evening.
In addition to the severe weather threat, a heavy rain threat develops for portions of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this weekend. A marginal risk for excessive rainfall that could lead to localized flooding exists each day.
