Powerful Winter Storm from the Upper Midwest into the Northeast; Severe Thunderstorms in the Midwest and Ohio Valley

Although wind speeds and gusts will be lower than the last few days, warmer temperatures, dry low levels and increasingly receptive fuels will all combine to lead to elevated to near critical fire weather conditions this afternoon in parts of the area. The most concerning conditions will be located along and west of Highway 75 and in the higher terrain of southeast Oklahoma. Take care to avoid behaviors that may inadvertently start a fire.
Above normal temperatures and dry conditions are forecast to close out 2025 and ring in 2026.
2025 featured a Christmas week for the record books, with multiple record highs smashed between the 23rd and the 28th at Tulsa, Fort Smith and Fayetteville. All-time December record highs were set at all three sites, as well.
