Tropical Depression in the Gulf; Severe Thunderstorms Monday

Tropical Depression Two is expected to gradually strengthen and could bring tropical storm conditions to the Florida Panhandle beginning late Monday. Areas of flash flooding will be possible through Thursday along the eastern and central Gulf Coast. September 20-21 2013 Calcasieu Parish Flash Flood

The highest measured amounts observed were in the Moss Bluff/Gillis area of Calcasieu Parish. One gauge recorded a total of 15.67 inches. There were two gauges that reported 3 hour totals around 8.3 inches between 9 PM and Midnight on the 20th. According to statistics developed by the Hydrometeorological Design Studies Center, this type of rainfall has a probability of between 0.5% and 1% occurring in any given year!
