A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Radar-derived Precipitation Estimates are a combination of Radar data and rain gauge observations. These estimates may be referred to as MPE values because they are derived by using the Multi-Sensor Precipitation Estimator (MPE) Program. This data may also be referred to as Stage III data, because the MPE process is the third stage of quality control on the radar-derived precipitation amounts. Hourly Radar rainfall estimates are compared to hourly gauge values to produce hourly MPE values.
