Heavy Rainfall and Flooding in the Southwest and Four Corners; Unsettled Weather in Florida

Heavy to excessive rainfall will continue today across portions of the Southwest and Four Corners Region, leading to flash, urban and small stream flooding. On December 28, 2011, Susan Spears of the National Weather Service, Midland/Odessa presented a Department of Commerce Honored Institution Award to Mr. Don Sitton of KPET radio in Lamesa, Texas for 50 years of service to the Cooperative Observer program.

Observations at KPET radio station started back on April 1, 1961, with Mr. Sitton taking over the observing responsibilities in 1989.

The National Weather Service office in Midland would like to thank KPET radio and Mr. Don Sitton for their many years of service. Congratulations on this great accomplishment and thank you for your support to the National Weather Service.
