Frigid Airmass to Bring Significantly Colder Temperatures; Snow Continues Downwind of the Great Lakes

A frigid cold airmass will bring significantly colder weather across the eastern two thirds of the country early this week. Record low temperatures are expected in the Southeast by Tuesday morning. On December 28, 2011, Susan Spears of the National Weather Service, Midland/Odessa presented a Department of Commerce Honored Institution Award to Mr. Don Sitton of KPET radio in Lamesa, Texas for 50 years of service to the Cooperative Observer program.

Observations at KPET radio station started back on April 1, 1961, with Mr. Sitton taking over the observing responsibilities in 1989.

The National Weather Service office in Midland would like to thank KPET radio and Mr. Don Sitton for their many years of service. Congratulations on this great accomplishment and thank you for your support to the National Weather Service.
