Unsettled Weather in the Eastern U.S. through Memorial Day

Showers and thunderstorms are expected from Texas to the Northeast through Tuesday. Heavy rain will create mainly localized areas of flash flooding across the central Gulf Coast into the Appalachians. Elevated to Critical fire weather conditions due to gusty winds and low humidity are expected through Tuesday across Oregon and Nevada. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over the Northwest. On December 28, 2011, Susan Spears of the National Weather Service, Midland/Odessa presented a Department of Commerce Honored Institution Award to Mr. Don Sitton of KPET radio in Lamesa, Texas for 50 years of service to the Cooperative Observer program.

Observations at KPET radio station started back on April 1, 1961, with Mr. Sitton taking over the observing responsibilities in 1989.

The National Weather Service office in Midland would like to thank KPET radio and Mr. Don Sitton for their many years of service. Congratulations on this great accomplishment and thank you for your support to the National Weather Service.
