Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Overview

A cold front moved southward across Kansas into a hot and humid airmass during the evening hours on July 31st. This sparked off a line of strong to severe thunderstorms which produced damaging to destructive winds across the northern and central Kansas. The Salina area had extensive tree damage and power outages from thunderstorm wind gusts over 80mph.
