Storm Impacting the Northwest U.S.; Fire Weather Conditions in Southern California; Severe Weather in the South

A Pacific storm is bringing areas of low elevation rain, moderate to heavy mountain snow, and high winds to the Northwest. Strong Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions are producing elevated to critical fire weather conditions in southern California. Overview

An arctic airmass overspread the region during the evening of January 5th into the morning of January 6th. At the same time, a fast moving upper level disturbance produced several narrow bands of moderate to heavy snow across parts of Kansas. The highest snow totals were over northwest and north central portions of the state where generally 2 to 4 inches fell.
