Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Concerns in California; Heavy Snow in the Sierra

An atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to lower elevations of California this week, and heavy snow to the Sierra Nevada mountains. Flash flooding, some of which may be locally considerable, will be a concern on the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains through Tuesday. El Niño/La Niña Information

Persistent below-average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific signal that La Niña conditions are favored to continue for the next month or two, with a transition to ENSO-neutral most likely in January-March 2026 (68% chance) in response to weakening subsurface temperature anomalies.

In North and Central Texas, La Niña patterns tend to favor better chances for:

warmer than average temperatures and lower than average precipitation (drier).
