Bibb County Tornado - October 23, 2007

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage in western BibbCounty. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds around 95 mph.
A tornado touched down about 3.5 miles southwest the Harrisburg Community at approximately 1201 AM. The tornado tracked north northeast for 7.5 miles and lifted after crossing Bear Creek Road around 1206 AM. The tornado damage path was 200 yards wide at its widest point. The tornado damage was very minimal for a majority of the path and limited to a few snapped trees. The damage increased along Bear Creek Road, about 2 miles west of Brent. At least 3 homes suffered minor damage and several outbuildings were destroyed. Numerous soft and hardwood trees were snapped off in this area. A Tornado Watch was in effect for Bibb County from 1114 PM CDT until 400 AM CDT.
Eyewitnesses reported no lightning activity with the storm that produced the tornado. But many were aware of the storm due to an unusually loud sound it was producing as it approached.
