Event Summary for Central Alabama
...WINSTON COUNTY...
The National Weather Service has determined that straight line winds were responsible for storm damage that was surveyed in Winston County north of the city of Poplar Springs. The damage occurred around 100 pm...uprooting 30-40 trees some of which fell on power lines along the side of County Road 195. The weight of the trees on the power lines snapped one of the wood power poles. The damage path was approximately 600 feet wide and 450 feet long. The wind speed was estimated to be between 70 and 75 mph.
...FAYETTE COUNTY...
The National Weather Service surveyed storm damage in Fayette County south of the city of Bazemore...and determined the damage was caused by straight line winds. The wind damage occurred around 215 pm...causing damage at two closely located areas along County Road 53. A large tree was uprooted...which fell on both a home and a shed...causing minor damage to the roof of the home and destroying the shed. The other damage included multiple snapped and uprooted trees. The wind speed was estimated to be between 75 and 80 mph.
...WALKER COUNTY...
The National Weather Service has also determined that straight line winds were the cause of surveyed damage in Walker County southeast of the city of Nauvoo. The wind damage occurred around 230 pm next to a home on New Oak Grove Road. Multiple pine trees were uprooted...one of which fell on and destroyed a carport. The wind speed was estimated to be between 70 and 75 mph.
...ETOWAH COUNTY...
The National Weather Service has surveyed damage in Etowah County in and around the city of Gadsden and concluded that the damage was caused by straight line winds. The wind damage occurred around 415 pm...sporadic uprooted and snapped trees were found along a 4.5 mile distance. Some of the downed trees fell on houses and out buildings causing structural damage. Some light,minor roof and structural damage was noted in the form of shingle and siding damage. One older brick building in the downtown area lost a portion of a wall.
