Wind Damage in Jefferson County - April 8th, 2006
Additional thunderstorm damage occurred across Jefferson County, beginning just after midnight on April 8th. Several trees and power lines were blown down countywide. Some of the locations that reported tree damage included Sylvan Springs, Pleasant Grove, Alliance, Birmingport, Hueytown, Fultondale, Oak Grove, Birmingham, Ensley, Concord, Center Point, Toadvine, Shady Grove, Chalkville, Bessemer and Inverness. These straight line winds were estimated between 80 and 85 mph. Hail also accompanied the storms and ranged from pea to golf ball size. An apartment complex in Birmingham received significant roof damage and many residents were displaced.
