Straight Line Winds and F1 Tornado
Calhoun County April 8, 2006

Around 148 AM CDT, straight line wind totally destroyed a Dollar General Store. Estimated winds of 70 mph picked up rocks in front of the building and blasted them into the store front windows. The winds blew out the right side of the building. The building`s frame work, made of aluminum beams, twisted and shifted allowing the left wall to cave in. Three miles southeast of Ohatchee, on Boiling Springs Road, an F1 tornado briefly touched down. Several trees were blown down or where snapped off. A few small out-buildings were also damaged. The tornado also rolled an automobile one time that was on a slight hill. One tree landed on a house. The tornado was on the ground at approximately 152 AM CDT. The tornado dmaage path was 3/4 of a mile long and 120 yards wide at its widest point. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 152 AM CDT and was upgraded to a Tornado Warning at 205 AM CDT valid until 245 AM CDT.

Additional thunderstorm damage occurred across Calhoun County on April 8th. Several trees and power lines were blown down countywide. Some of the locations that reported damage include Saks, Choccolocco, and Weaver.
