A National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team has surveyed the storm damage in northern Tuscaloosa County. It has been determined the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Damage estimates were consistent with winds around 90 mph.

The tornado touched down 4 miles northwest of Samantha in the Northside Community. The tornado affected areas along Old Fayette Road, County Road 38 and Billy Bigham Road. At least six homes were damaged and one home sustained significant damage. Several hundred trees were either snapped off or were blown down. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Storm Relative Velocity/Reflectivity Loop - This 4-panel imagery was taken from the Birmingham WSR-88D located at the bottom right of the frames. Starting in the top left and moving clockwise, the imagery looks higher into the storm. Although there was no discernable velocity couplet (high inbound green next to a high outbound red), there was some strong shear indicated from just east of Gordo (beginning of frame) to near Berry (end of frame). This was the feature that produced the brief tornado in the Northside Community.
