National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage in far northern Tuscaloosa County, near the Windham Springs and Wiley Communities. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-3 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds 140-150 mph.
The tornado touched down around 411 PM just southwest of the intersection of AL-69 and CR-38, near Windham Springs. From there, it traveled northeast across the intersection, and then roughly parallel to CR-38 for about 5 miles, before lifting northeast of the Wiley Community around 417 PM. The tornado heavily damaged at least 5 structures, including a church in Windham Springs and a general store in Wiley. At least 33 trees were also either snapped or uprooted.
A Tornado Warning was in effect for this area from 331 PM until 432 PM. A Tornado Watch was in effect from 1134 AM until 622 PM.
