Powerful Pacific Storm to Continue Impacting Northern California; Heavy Snow in the Appalachians and Portions of the Northeast

Driest Winter in Tulsa Oklahoma Since Record Keeping Began in 1888 and January 2006 was Warmest on Record

 

The winter of 2005-2006 will go down in the record books as being the driest ever in Tulsa Oklahoma. Only 1.59 inches of precipitation fell during the meteorological winter months of December, January and Febuary. This breaks the old record by 0.17 inches. On average 5.36" of precipitation falls during the winter months in Tulsa.

Warmest January on Record for Tulsa
January 31st high and low temperatures sealed the deal for the warmest January on record in Tulsa since 1905. The average temperature for January 2006 was 48.4 degrees...breaking the previous record of 48.0 degress set in 1923. The 48.4 degree reading was also 12.0 degrees above the normal of 36.4 for the month. To put this in a different perspective...Tulsa was 4.4 degrees warmer than the average January temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area...and only 3.4 degrees cooler than the normal January in Houston.
