National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Overview

A strong area of low pressure tracked east across Arkansas during the early morning hours of January 19th. Showers and a few thunderstorms tracked across the area during the evening of the 18th into the overnight hours of the 19th with temperatures in the 40s ahead of the cold front associated with the low. As the low tracked east during the morning daylight hours of the 19th, temperatures cooled to freezing and below with rain changing over to snow. Snow began as a more disorganized narrow band northwest of Springfield, but as the morning progressed into the early afternoon, the snow band became more organized over south central Missouri where 3 to 5 inches of snow occurred.
