Locally Heavy Rainfall for the Carolinas; Thunderstorms and Fire Weather Concerns for Intermountain West

Heavy rainfall from scattered thunderstorms is expected across the Southwest, Intermountain West, and Plains. Isolated dry thunderstorms may initiate additional fires across the west. The coastal Carolinas may experience flash floods in the coming days due to repeated thunderstorms. Summary

Scattered supercell thunderstorms developed out ahead of a cold front that pushed into the region Thursday afternoon. Multiple reports of large hail were received, with two reports of ping pong ball size hail in Morgan County. A few of the storms also exhibited strong rotation which prompted the issuance of Tornado Warnings. The storms then congealed into a broken line later in the evening with a few more reports of severe hail. Non-thunderstorm wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph occurred on Thursday ahead of the storms, with a gust of 53 mph measured at the JLN airport.
