Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. A slow moving storm system brought heavy rainfall, flooding and localized severe weather to the region Wednesday April 17 into Thursday April 18th.  The brunt of the flooding and severe weather occurred late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Storm total rainfall amounts generally ranged from 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts of 3 to 4 inches. This excessive rainfall resulted in flash flooding of streams and low water crossings along with main stem river flooding
